Trump CNN town hall: Alabama native Kaitlan Collins, frequent target of ex-POTUS, to moderate

Kaitlan Collins, the Alabama native turned CNN host, will moderate next week’s Presidential Town Hall with former president Donald Trump.

Collins and Trump have a history of long – but not cordial – interactions.

Collins served as CNN’s chief White House correspondent during the Trump administration. In 2018, she was denied entry to a Rose Garden event after White House officials said she had asked inappropriate questions during a photo op earlier in the day, reportedly asking Trump if he felt “betrayed” by former Attorney Michael Cohen and nervous about what he might say to prosecutors who were investigating the 2016 presidential election.

The president did not answer the questions.

In its statement at the time, CNN criticized the decision to block its reporter.

“Just because the White House is uncomfortable with a question regarding the news of the day doesn’t mean the question isn’t relevant and shouldn’t be asked. This decision to bar a member of the press is retaliatory in nature and not indicative of an open and free press. We demand better,” the network said.

The former president has regularly referred to CNN as “fake news” and sued the network for defamation over its coverage of his role in the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol and false claims of voter fraud.

Collins is now a chief correspondent and co-anchor for CNN This Morning.

Now, Trump, who is currently under indictment related to hush money allegedly paid to a former porn star during the 2016 presidential race, will appear on CNN. The event will air May 10 at 9 p.m. ET (8 p.m. CT). The former president will be taking questions from New Hampshire Republicans and undeclared voters who plan to cast a ballot in the 2024 GOP presidential primary.
