Trump breaks his record for worst approval rating with key voting bloc: ‘This is the biggest warning sign’
President Donald Trump has broken a record.
It’s not one he’ll be proud of.
In 2017, Trump broke the all-time record for worst net approval rating among independents after a president’s first six months in office.
In July 2017, Trump’s approval rating with independents stood at -23.
Now, the president has shattered that all-time low with a -29 net approval rating among independents.
“This is the biggest warning sign, the biggest danger sign for President Trump in his second term so far,” said CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten.
“It does not appear that there is a bottom to which Donald’s support can’t fall to.”
According to a Gallup poll released Thursday, Trump’s approval rating with independents has plunged by 26 percentage points since January.
At the start of his second term, Trump had a -3 net approval rating among independents. That number now stands at -29.
Gallup’s numbers larger mirror Trump’s average approval rating with independents in other polls. The average in January was -2 while the average now is -34.
“If you’re not winning among independents, you’re probably not winning overall,” Enten said. “And when you’re net approval rating’s -29 points, you’re definitely not winning overall with independents.”
Taking a page from Trump’s dictionary, Enten said Trump’s slump with independents is “huge.”
“He has broken his own record for the worst on record … there appears to be no [floor] and Trump is certainly falling through that floor,” he said.
