Truck found in same Alabama lake where man’s body discovered more than a decade ago

A pickup truck found Wednesday in an Alabama lake may be connected to a body found in that same lake 12 years ago, authorities said.

Fisherman detected the truck using sonar in Shepard Lake, in Mount Vernon, Police Chief Eric Pettway told WKRG.

AL.com’s efforts to reach Pettway were not immediately successful.

The top of the pickup was visible to the fishermen, according to Pettway.

Wednesday’s discovery is near where a man’s body was found in the lake by the end of Shepard Lake Road in 2012.

The police chief said it’s possible that the truck may be related to that case, and if so, could provide closure to the man’s family.

Pettway did not identify the man, and neither did authorities when the body was first found.

Water conditions prevented Mobile County sheriff’s deputies from removing the truck from the lake on Thursday.

Recovery efforts are expected to resume next week.
