A multi-vehicle accident in south Alabama resulted in two people dying and one driver being arrested.

According to the Thomasville Police Department, the crash occurred Tuesday at about 11:51 a.m. when a semi truck struck four vehicles from behind.

The department said each of vehicles that were hit were sitting at a red light in the south bound lane of Highway 43.

The collision killed two people at the scene — Ashley Marie Springer McDonald, 37, and Woodie Earl Beck III, 53. Neither of the victims were in the same car.

Four others were sent to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries and later released, police said.

The driver of the semi-truck was identified as Andrii Dmyterko, 45, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dmyterko was charged with two counts of vehicular manslaughter and is currently in the Clarke County Jail.

The wreck is still being investigated, according to the department.
