Troy’s Austin Stidham is finalist for Campbell Trophy

Troy offensive lineman Austin Stidham was named Wednesday as one of 15 finalists for the 2022 William V. Campbell Trophy, presented to the top scholar-athlete in college football.

For being a finalist, Stidham will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship. The Campbell Trophy — considered the academic equivalent of the Heisman Trophy — will be presented at the 64th annual National Football Foundation Awards dinner in Las Vegas in December, with the winner having his scholarship amount increased to $25,000.

Stidham, a senior from Russellville, is a two-time Academic All-American and a three-time Academic All-Sun Belt Conference selection. He graduated in 2021 with a 3.92 grade-point average in biology and is on track to receive his master’s degree in secondary education in the spring.

A two-time All-Sun Belt first-team selection at tackle, the 6-foot-5, 292-pound Stidham has been called for just one penalty all season and has allowed just eight quarterback pressures in the last seven games. Troy is 6-2 overall and 4-1 in the Sun Belt, with an open date this week before traveling to Louisiana on Nov. 5.
