Troyâs Shane Lewis planning to return for 2024 season
Troy outfielder Shane Lewis has withdrawn from consideration for the 2023 Major League Baseball draft and will return to school next season, he announced Sunday.
Lewis was Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year in 2023, when he batted .286/.436/.705 with 27 home runs and 77 RBIs. The home run total led the Sun Belt and was a Trojans program record.
Lewis announced his return via Twitter:
Lewis, a native of Vicksburg, Miss., was draft-eligible as a redshirt sophomore who is at least 21 years old (he turns 22 in November). He redshirted at Mississippi State in 2021 before playing at Chipola (Fla.) College in 2022 and then transferring to Troy.
Troy finished 40-22 in 2023, reaching the semifinals of the Sun Belt tournament and then going 1-2 in the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional.
