Troyâs Jibunor, Renfroe honored by Sun Belt Conference
Troy defensive end Richard Jibunor and kicker Scott Taylor Renfroe were among the individual award winners for Week 7 announced by the Sun Belt Conference on Monday.
Jibunor was named Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in a 19-0 victory at Army on Saturday, while Renfroe was chosen as Special Teams Player of the Week. Coastal Carolina quarterback Grayson McCall took home honors on offense.
Jibunor, a senior from Delta State, Nigeria, totaled five tackles, two sacks and two forced fumbles as the Trojans (5-2) recorded the first shutout at Army’s Michie Stadium since 2003. Troy held Army to just 255 yards of total offense, the sixth time in seven games the Trojans have limited their opponent to less than 300 yards.
Renfroe, a sophomore from Troy, tied the program record with four field goals vs. the Black Knights. He accounted for 13 of the Trojans’ 19 points with kicks of 23, 35, 32 and 43 yards, plus one extra point.
Troy has an open date this week before traveling to Texas State on Oct. 28.
