Troy’s Javon Solomon headed to 2024 Senior Bowl

Troy edge rusher Javon Solomon has accepted his invitation to the 2024 Reese’s Senior Bowl, it was announced Thursday.

Solomon (6-foot-2, 249 pounds) leads the country with 16 sacks this season, along with 52 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries for the Sun Belt Conference champion Trojans. The Tallahassee, Fla., native has one season of eligibility remaining, but Thursday’s news is an indication he’s planning on turning pro.

Troy interim coach Greg Gasparato surprised Solomon with his Senior Bowl invitation during a team meeting this week.

Solomon joins Alabama defensive end Justin Eboigbe and kicker Will Reichard and Auburn defensive backs Jaylin Simpson, DJ James and Nehemiah Pritchett as in-state players committed to the 75th anniversary Senior Bowl, which takes place Feb. 3 at Mobile’s Hancock Whitney Stadium. Other players with in-state ties confirmed for the game are Missouri cornerback Kris Abrams-Draine (a former Spanish Fort High School star) and Ole Miss defensive end Cedric Johnson (a Mobile native).

Other notable players committed to the 2024 Senior Bowl include North Carolina State linebacker (and Butkus Award winner) Payton Wilson, Missouri defensive lineman Darius Robinson, Texas defensive lineman (and Outland Trophy winner) T’Vondre Sweat, Kansas State offensive lineman Cooper Beebe, South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler and wide receiver Xavier Legette, North Carolina wide receiver Tez Walker, Tennessee quarterback Joe Milton, Tulane quarterback Michael Pratt, Georgia center Sedrick Van Pran and Iowa punter (and Ray Guy Award winner) Tory Taylor. Players will be continue to be added as game week approaches.

The 2024 Senior Bowl, sponsored for the first time this year by the NFL Players Association, kicks off at noon on Feb. 3. NFL Network will televise the game live.
