Troy set to hire Greg Gasparato as defensive coordinator
Troy is set to hire Greg Gasparato as its new defensive coordinator, a source confirmed to AL.com.
Gasparato joins the Trojans from Cincinnati, where he was hired Jan. 4 as outside linebackers coach. He previously worked at Louisville, Army, Appalachian State and Wofford, among other coaching stops.
Gasparato was co-defensive coordinator at Army in 2020 with Shiel Wood, whom he’ll replace at Troy. Wood, who also coached safeties, left the Trojans last week to become defensive coordinator at Tulane.
Troy’s defense was one of the best in the country last season, ranking eighth nationally in both points allowed per game (17.1) and total turnovers gained (27). The Trojans went 12-2 and won the Sun Belt Conference championship, capping the season with an 18-12 victory over UT-San Antonio in the Cure Bowl.
