Troy running back Kimani Vidal headed to Senior Bowl

Troy running back Kimani Vidal has accepted an invitation to play in the Reese’s Senior Bowl, game officials announced Thursday.

The 5-foot-8, 215-pound Vidal set Trojans records for rushing yards in a single game (248), single season (1,661) and career (4,010) in 2023, when he was named Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Year. The Marietta, Ga., native was also chosen as a third-team All-American by the Associated Press as Troy finished 11-3 and won its second straight Sun Belt championship.

Here’s video of Vidal getting the call from Senior Bowl executive director Jim Nagy. Vidal also notes that the late Baseball Hall of Famer Henry Aaron, a Mobile native, was his great uncle.

Vidal joins teammate Javon Solomon in the 75th anniversary Senior Bowl, which takes place Feb. 3 in Mobile. Solomon, a defensive end/outside linebacker, led the country with 16 sacks this season.

Vidal and Solomon join Alabama defensive end Justin Eboigbe and kicker Will Reichard and Auburn defensive backs Jaylin Simpson, DJ James and Nehemiah Pritchett as in-state players committed to the 2024 Senior Bowl. Other players with in-state ties confirmed for the game are Missouri cornerback Kris Abrams-Draine (a former Spanish Fort High School star), Miami offensive lineman Javion Cohen (a Phenix City native and Alabama transfer) and Ole Miss defensive end Cedric Johnson (a Mobile native).

The 2024 Senior Bowl kicks off at noon on Feb. 3 at Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile. NFL Network will televise the game live.
