Troy is picked to finish eighth in the Sun Belt Conference in men’s basketball this season, according to voting by league coaches released Monday.

Scott Cross’ Trojans — who finished 20-13 a year ago — received 91 poll points, placing them behind James Madison (7; 176), Appalachian State (2; 159), Old Dominion (1; 154), Southern Miss (148), Louisiana (2; 136), South Alabama (2; 129) and Marshall (119). Arkansas State (84) came in eighth, followed by Texas State (72), Georgia State (69), Coastal Carolina (59), Georgia Southern (42) and Louisiana-Monroe (32).

Also announced Monday were the preseason All-Sun Belt teams, with Troy guard Christyon Eugene chosen to the first team and guard Aamer Muhammad picked for the third team. Eugene, a senior from Spring, Texas, averaged 12.0 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists last season.

Muhammad, a senior from Rio Rancho, N.M., averaged 10.3 points per game. The Trojans were one of five schools who had multiple players chosen first-, second- or third-team All-Sun Belt in the preseason.

Southern Miss guard Austin Crowley was named Sun Belt Preseason Player of the Year in addition to picking up a spot on the first team. Eugene and Crowley — who averaged 16 points per game a year ago —are joined on the first team by James Madison guard Terrence Edwards, Appalachian State forward Donovan Gregory, Old Dominion guard Chauncy Jenkins and Louisiana guard Themus Folks.

The second team consists of South Alabama guard Tyrell Jones, Marshall guard Kamdyn Curfman, Louisiana-Monroe guard Tyreke Locure, Georgia State guard Dwon Odom and Marshall forward Obinna Anochili-Killen. Joining Muhammad on the third team are Arkansas State guard Terrance Ford, Georgia State guard Brenden Tucker, Appalachian State forward C.J. Huntley and Arkansas State guard Freddy Hicks.
