Troy in Women’s NIT ‘Fab 4’ after beating ULM, 89-75

Ja’Mia Hollings had a double-double with 22 points and 16 rebounds as Troy outlasted Louisiana-Monroe 89-75 in the quarterfinals of the Women’s NIT at Trojan Arena on Monday night.

With the victory, Troy advances to the WNIT semifinals, AKA the “Fab 4.” The Trojans (22-11) will host Minnesota (19-15) at 6 p.m. Wednesday for a spot in Saturday’s championship game.

On Monday, Troy never trailed after the early moments of the second quarter and pushed its lead to 10 by halftime. The Trojans were up by as many as 17 in the fourth quarter in beating the Warhawks (21-14) for the third time this season.

Hollings was one of four Troy players in double figures scoring, joined by Makayia Hallmon (19), Tai’Sheka Porchia (14) and Nia Daniel (14). Zay Dyer added 14 rebounds off the bench, part of an effort in which the Trojans out-rebounded the Warhawks 59-37 (including 15-6 on the offensive glass).

ULM’s Daisha Bradford — a Mobile native — led all scorers with 31 points, while Lauren Gross added 16 and Brianna Harris 10 with eight rebounds. The Warhawks made 10 3-pointers as a team, but shot just 36.1% from the field.

Troy had never won a postseason game before this season, but has now reeled off three straight in the WNIT. The 6-foot-2 Hollings, a second-team All-Sun Belt pick at forward this year, has recorded a double-double in all three games.

Saint Louis meets Vermont in the other WNIT semifinal. The championship game is set for 2 p.m. Saturday on CBS Sports Network.
