Troy hires Dontae Wright as defensive coordinator
Troy has hired Dontae Wright as its defensive coordinator and safeties coach, the school announced Friday.
Wright, a Kentucky native, spent the last four seasons as safeties coach on Neal Brown’s staff at West Virginia. He has also coached at Western Michigan, Tennessee Tech, Morehead State and North Alabama, among other stops.
Wright completes Troy’s defensive staff under first-year head coach Gerad Parker. The Trojans previously hired Justin Manning (defensive line), Nathan Burton (inside linebackers, co-defensive coordinator) and Chris Boone (outside linebackers) and retained cornerbacks coach Travis Pearson from Jon Sumrall’s previous Trojans staff.
The offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach position remains officially open, though it has been widely reported that Green Bay Packers assistant Tim Lester will take over that spot once the Packers’ season ends. Troy has already hired Re’Quan Boyette (running backs), Caleb Carbine (offensive line) and Kevin Reihner (tight ends/offensive tackles) and retained wide receivers coach Gary Banks from Sumrall’s staff.
