Troy headed to Tuscaloosa for NCAA Baseball Regional
Troy earned a spot in the NCAA Baseball Regionals on Monday.
The Trojans (39-20) will be the No. 3 seed in the Tuscaloosa Regional, which takes place at Alabama’s Sewell-Thomas Stadium. Troy meets No. 2 Boston College (35-18) in a first-round matchup on Friday.
No. 1 Alabama (40-19) meets No. 4 Nicholls (34-22) in the other first-round game on Friday. The regional is double-elimination, with the winner advancing to the best-of-3 Super Regional round.
“Today is a huge day for all Trojans,” Troy coach Skylar Meade said. “Getting into the big dance was the goal when we first met in August and the catalyst for everything we put into the last year. All the credit goes to the staff, support staff, and most importantly, the players. The players have given all they have to get this chance, and we promise that we will not waste the opportunity ahead.”
Troy earned an at-large spot in the field after finishing third in the Sun Belt Conference regular-season standings. The Trojans then went 1-2 in the Sun Belt tournament, losing in the quarterfinal round.
A Division II baseball power in the 1980s and early 90s, Troy previously played in NCAA Division I Regionals in 1995, 1997, 2006, 2007, 2011 and 2013. The Trojans have never advanced to the Super Regional round or College World Series as a Division I program.
Game times and a full schedule for the Tuscaloosa Regional will be released later.
