Troy center Jake Andrews accepts Senior Bowl invitation
Troy center Jake Andrews has accepted an invitation to play in the 2023 Reese’s Senior Bowl, game officials announced Wednesday.
Andrews, a former Stanhope Elmore High School standout, is the second Trojan confirmed for this year’s Senior Bowl. Linebacker Carlton Martial will also play in the annual college football all-star game and NFL draft showcase, which takes place Feb. 4 at Mobile’s Hancock Whitney Stadium.
The 6-foot-3, 325-pound Andrews played all but three offensive snaps in 2022 for the Trojans, who went 12-2 and won the Sun Belt Conference championship. He was a first-team All-Sun Belt pick in his first year at the center position, having previously started two seasons at guard.
Andrews had one more season of college eligibility remaining, but declared for the NFL draft on Dec. 21 (because he is a college graduate, he is eligible for the Senior Bowl as an underclassman). He has also accepted an invitation to the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, which takes place Jan. 28 in Los Angeles.
This year marks just the second time Troy has put multiple players in the Senior Bowl. The other was 2010, when linebacker Cameron Sheffield and defensive lineman Brandon Lang both played in the game.
Andrews joins a host of in-state stars confirmed for the Senior Bowl, a list that also includes eight players from Alabama (tight end Cameron Latu, offensive linemen Emil Ekiyor and Tyler Steen, defensive linemen DJ Dale and Byron Young, linebacker Henry To’oTo’o and defensive backs Demarcco Hellams and Jordan Battle), three from Auburn (edge rushers Derick Hall and Etu Leota and linebacker Owen Pappoe) and two from South Alabama (wide receiver Jalen Wayne and cornerback Darrell Luter). The 2023 Reese’s Senior Bowl kicks off at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 4, with television coverage via NFL Network. Tickets to the game may be purchased on the Senior Bowl website.
