Troy catcher Brooks Bryan named first-team All-Sun Belt

Troy catcher Brooks Bryan was selected first-team All-Sun Belt Conference in voting announced Monday.

Bryan, a sophomore from Opelika, leads the Sun Belt and set a Troy record this season with 82 RBIs. Heading into this week’s conference tournament, he is hitting .285/.393/.599 with 10 doubles, 17 homers and 51 runs scored.

The Trojans placed five other players on the All-Sun Belt second-team: pitcher Luke Lyon, first baseman Will Butcher, second baseman Ethan Kavanagh, outfielder Kole Myers and designated hitter Kyle Mock. Troy (36-20 overall, 17-11 Sun Belt) is the No. 3 for the conference tournament, and meetS No. 6 Appalachian State at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery.

South Alabama placed one player on the All-Sun Belt second team: relief pitcher pitcher Grant Wood. The Jaguars (31-24, 14-16) are the No. 9 seed for the conference tournament, and face No. 8 Old Dominion at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Regular season Sun Belt champion Louisiana took home four of the six individual awards: Player of the Year (shortstop Kyle DeBarge), Pitcher of the Year (reliever LP Langevin), Freshman of the Year (starting pitcher Chase Morgan) and Ron Maestri Coach of the Year (Matt Deggs). Appalachian State outfielder Banks Tolley (an Ole Miss transfer) was named Newcomer of the Year, while Georgia Southern outfielder Sam Blancato won the Tony Robichaux Leadership Award.
