Troy adds Houston Christian quarterback transfer for 2024
Troy now has five quarterbacks on its 2024 football roster after the recent addition of Montana Wells, a transfer from Houston Christian.
Wells (6-foot-5, 210 pounds) did not see any game action as a true freshman in 2023 for the Huskies, an FCS program. After redshirting, he has four seasons of eligibility remaining.
Wells joins junior Goose Crowder, sophomore Tucker Kilcrease, Gardner-Webb transfer Matthew Caldwell and true freshman Caleb McCreary as quarterbacks on Troy’s updated 2024 roster. Caldwell and McCreary, a former Montgomery Catholic star, also joined the program this summer.
Wells is the fourth transfer portal addition for the Trojans in the summer 2024 cycle, joining Caldwell, safety Ian Conerly-Goodly (Southeastern Louisiana) and wide receiver Marquez “Mojo” Dortch (California). Troy must replace four-year starting quarterback Gunnar Watson, whose eligibility expired after leading the team to its second straight Sun Belt Conference championship in 2023.
Troy — led by first-year coach Gerad Parker — opens the 2024 season at home Aug. 31 vs. Nevada.
