Alabama Education Lab reporter Trisha Powell Crain will lead a panel about her 2021 “High Flyers” project in Birmingham Friday, April 13, during the annual Alabama Opportunity Summit.

The Alabama Education Lab is a team of journalists at AL.com who cover education and child health and wellness issues around the state.

Crain’s “High Flyers” project explored how certain low-resourced schools beat the odds and outperformed their peers. She spoke to teachers, students, parents and community members about specific recipes for success.

Her project was honored with awards and recognized by national organizations for its ability to explain complex issues and produce a positive impact.

Alabama’s school improvement specialists used the stories in trainings to help other low-resourced schools understand what is possible.
