Trevor Lawrence ‘super excited’ about Calvin Ridley
Quarterback Trevor Lawrence blossomed down the stretch in the 2022 NFL season, and he’s looking forward to carrying that momentum into the Jacksonville Jaguars’ offseason program.
The Jaguars are hoping Lawrence gets a boost from their newest wide receiver – Calvin Ridley.

Jacksonville obtained the former Alabama standout in a trade with the Atlanta Falcons on Nov. 1, but he couldn’t join the team until the NFL lifted his indefinite suspension on March 6.
Ridley missed the entire 2022 season after the NFL suspended him for betting on league games.
In his most recent full season, Ridley had 90 receptions for 1,374 yards and nine touchdowns in 2020 for the Falcons.
Lawrence already has worked with Ridley.
“We have (thrown together) once, and I’m super excited,” Lawrence told media members after throwing out the ceremonial first pitch for the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp’s season-opening game on Tuesday night. “We’re just excited to have him. He’s going to be another piece for this offense and our team, and just a good guy that we’re excited to bring into the locker room. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Jacksonville returns its top two wide receivers from the 2022 season. Christian Kirk had 84 receptions for 1,108 yards and eight touchdowns, and Zay Jones had 82 receptions for 823 yards and five touchdowns. Also back after being franchise-tagged is tight end Evan Engram, who had 73 receptions for 766 yards and four touchdowns last season.
The Jaguars lost No. 3 wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr. to the Detroit Lions in free agency. Jones caught 46 passes for 529 yards and three touchdowns in 10 games in 2022.
As Jacksonville won six of its final seven regular-season games to reach the playoffs last season, Lawrence had 12 touchdown passes and two interceptions with a passing-efficiency rating of 103.4. In the first 10 games of the 2022 season, Lawrence had 13 touchdown passes and six interceptions with a passing-efficiency rating of 89.7.
In the postseason, Lawrence threw four interceptions and the Jaguars lost another turnover on a punt as the Los Angeles Chargers built a 27-point lead in the first half of a Super Wild-Card Weekend game on Jan. 14. But Jacksonville came all the way back for a 31-30 victory sealed by a field goal on the final snap of the AFC playoff contest. With the Jaguars trailing 27-0, Lawrence completed 24-of-32 passes for 258 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions in the remainder of the game as Jacksonville rallied for its sixth consecutive victory.
The Jaguars’ first season under coach Doug Pederson ended a week later in a 27-20 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Ridley hasn’t played in an NFL game since Oct. 24, 2021.
After missing Atlanta’s game on Oct. 31, 2021, Ridley issued a statement that read: “These past few weeks have been very challenging, and as much as I’d like to be on the field competing with my teammates, I need to step away from football at this time and focus on my mental wellbeing. This will help me be the best version of myself now and in the future. I want to thank my teammates, the entire Atlanta Falcons organization, our great fans, my friends and my family for all of their support during this time.”
Ridley did not play in the remainder of the 2021 season, and the NFL has said it was during this period away from the Falcons that he bet on games.
In 49 NFL regular-season games, Ridley has 248 receptions for 3,342 yards and 28 touchdowns. Only four other receivers in NFL history can match Ridley’s receiving stats through their first 49 games – Odell Beckham Jr., Marques Colston, Mike Evans and A.J. Green.
The Jaguars begin their voluntary offseason program on April 17.
“We’re pumped,” Lawrence said. “We’ll have a good crew there, and it’s such a cool time of the year. Everybody comes back, get to start building your team, building your foundation. I’m really excited to start that with all the guys.”
