Transfer big and former teammate of Tide player includes UA in top 5
Alabama needs to restock its roster in the 2023-24 season. Could a transfer and former teammate of Tide big Nick Pringle be part of the solution?
B.J. Mack, formerly of USF and Wofford, released his top five on Tuesday and included the Crimson Tide among Arkansas, LSU, Iowa and South Carolina.
According to multiple reports, Wofford will visit each of his finalists, starting with the Tigers on April 7. He’ll be in Tuscaloosa from April 14-16, Wofford told On3. Mack competed with Pringle for playing time during the latter’s freshman year in 2020 at Wofford. Pringle joined Nate Oats and co. this past season and projects to play more than the 8.1 minutes per game he averaged.
Starting center Charles Bediako, who Pringle has a “big brother, little brother” relationship with, entered his name into NBA Draft consideration last week, as did starting-power forward Noah Clowney. Grad transfer Noah Gurley also utilized his last season in college rotating in for Alabama’s bigs.
Mack’s ability to space the floor and be a factor in the paint defensively makes him an appealing option for Oats’ new-look lineup. He blocked at least 14 shots and recorded at least 19 steals in the last two seasons. Mack hasn’t shied away from handling the ball in the post which has led to 147 turnovers compared to 127 assists. This year, Mack was named All-Southern Conference and led the Bulldogs in scoring, 3s and blocks.
Alabama has lost two players to the transfer portal, both guards. Sophomore Nimari Burnett, who came from Texas Tech, committed to Michigan last week. Five-star recruit Jaden Bradley announced his entry into the portal. It’s brought one player in with former G.W. Carver-Montgomery prep star Jaykwon Walton transferring from Wichita State.
