Toys sold at Walmart, Target, CVS, Walgreens recalled due to risk of impalement; 12 children injured

Two Baby Shark bath toys sold at retailers nationwide are being recalled over concerns their hard plastic fins could impale or puncture a child.

The recall involves the full-size Robo Alive Junior Baby Shark Sing and Swim bath toy and the Mini Baby Shark Swimming bath toy. The larger toys, which sings and swims when placed in the water, have a hard plastic top fin with three grooves on one side, measure about 7 inches from nose to tail and were sold in three colors: yellow, pink and blue.

The recalled Mini Baby Shark bath toys swim when placed in water but do not sing. They have a hard plastic top fin, measure about 4-inches from nose to tail and were sold in three colors: yellow, pink and blue.

The toys were sold at Walmart, CVS, Dollar General, Target, TJ Maxx and Marshall’s and Walgreens, as well as online, between May 2019 and March 2023.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, importer Zuru has received 12 notifications of children falling or sitting onto the larger toys, resulting in impalement injuries, cuts or puncture wounds, including to the children’s genitals, anorectal and facial areas. Nine of the incidents required stitches or medical attention.

There have been no reported incidents or injuries involving the Mini Baby Shark bath toys.

The CPSC advises people to stop using the toys and contact Zuru for a refund of $14 for the full-size toy or $6 for the mini size. You can see more on how to claim your refund here.
