Severe weather is still expected to affect parts of south Alabama overnight.

A tornado watch has been issued for part of southwest Alabama and will be in effect until 5 a.m. Wednesday.

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center said a strong tornado will be possible in the watch area, which includes parts of Mississippi and Florida.

In addition to tornadoes there will be a possibility of high winds, both near and away from storms, and a high wind warning is in effect for Washington, Mobile and Baldwin counties overnight.

The Storm Prediction Center said the environment in the tornado watch area “will become increasingly favorable for severe storms including the possibility of tornadoes and damaging winds late this evening and overnight.”

The Alabama counties in the watch are Baldwin, Clarke, Conecuh, Covington, Escambia, Mobile, Monroe and Washington.

The SPC is maintaining a Level 3 out of 5 risk for severe weather for the southwest part of the state, including the Mobile area. A Level 3 or enhanced risk means numerous severe storms will be possible.

Much of the rest of south Alabama has a Level 2 risk, and a Level 1 risk extends into central Alabama.

No severe weather is expected for north and north-central Alabama, but rain and storms were moving into those areas late Tuesday.

The National Weather Service will be tracking a line of storms that is expected to approach Alabama’s western border around midnight and continue eastward across the state.
