Tornado confirmed in north Alabama from Friday’s storms

One tornado touched down in Alabama during Friday’s round of severe weather, according to the National Weather Service.

The tornado was very brief and did not cause any injuries, according to a preliminary storm survey from the weather service in Huntsville.

Friday’s storms spawned multiple severe thunderstorm warnings and a few tornado warnings as well.

The weather service also did a storm damage survey near Hartselle in Morgan County on Friday and determined that storm damage there was not caused by a tornado but by straight-line winds.

The confirmed tornado from Friday was in DeKalb County in northeast Alabama, according to the weather service.

It was an EF-0 with top winds estimated at 85 mph. It touched down at 6:53 a.m. on Friday and was on the ground for only a minute. It covered 0.19 miles during that time and was 77 yards wide at its peak.

The weather service said it touched down just south of County Road 72 in Tenbroeck and damaged the roof of a chicken house. A pole barn also sustained some damage as well as a small barn. The tornado lifted soon after.
