Top Alabama HS football recruit turns down 7-figure NIL deal to stay at Thompson

One of the top high school football recruits in the state of Alabama has turned down a lucrative NIL offer from another state to stay at Thompson High School.

Cameron Pritchett, a 6-foot-3, 231-pound EDGE in the Class of 2027, declined a $750,000 offer to leave the reigning Class 7A Warriors. The decision was reported on social media by 5 Star Football Recruiting.

Thompson head coach Mark Freeman confirmed the accuracy of the report.

Pritchett is at least the second high-profile Warrior to turn down such an offer to play out-of-state in the last year. Quarterback Trent Seaborn turned down a seven-figure NIL deal from a trading card company last year.

NIL deals are not allowed on the high school level in Alabama.

Pritchett made 78 tackles in 2024 for Thompson, including 15 for a loss. He also had 6.5 sacks and 6 QB Hurries. In the Class 7A championship game against Central-Phenix City, Pritchett totaled seven tackles (two solo), two tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks in the victory.

“My mindset was just putting my trust in the Lord,” Pritchett said after the game. “I knew if I would just go out there and play under His name, I’ll make good ways to do good things. So, I just want to thank the Lord.”

He told 5 Star Football Recruiting that he knows God has a plan for him.

“It’s important to me that my legacy is built on integrity, hard work, passion and faith,” he said. “I want to do that at Thompson.”
