Tool coming to Alabama in 2024: How to get tickets
Tool, the hardcore rock band led by Maynard James Keenan, has announced 20 concert dates for early 2024, including a stop in Alabama.
Tool is set to perform on Jan. 26 at the Legacy Arena at the BJCC, promoter Red Mountain Entertainment confirmed on Tuesday. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. CT on Friday, Oct. 13, via Ticketmaster, priced at $59.75, $89.75, $99.75, $124.75 and $149.75, plus service charges. Elder, a rock band from Massachusetts, will open the show at 7:30 p.m.
Pre-sales start on Wednesday, Oct. 11, and end on Thursday, Oct. 12. the Ticketmaster website says. That includes a pre-sale for members of the band’s fan club, Tool Army.
Right now, Birmingham is the only Alabama date on Tool’s agenda for next year. The band has an avid fan base in Birmingham, and made its last appearance here in 2019, also at Legacy Arena.
Tool previously performed in the Birmingham area in May 2007, selling out Oak Mountain Amphitheatre (then called the Verizon Wireless Music Center) in Pelham. The band also played at Oak Mountain in October 2001, entrancing a crowd that stood nailed to the spot, watching the entire show in pouring rain.
Aside from Keenan, the frontman and lead singer, Tool includes guitarist Adam Jones, drummer Danny Carey and bassist Justin Chancellor.
Tool, formed in 1990 in Los Angeles, has five studio albums to its credit: “Undertow” (1993), “AEnima” (1996), “Lateralus” (2001), “10,000 Days” (2006), and “Fear Inoculum” (2019). Tool made its fame as an intense, inscrutable band that keeps its privacy closely guarded and isn’t afraid to make bold moves on stage.
Keenan, 59, has been known to wear some elaborate costumes on tour, and made waves in May by performing in drag at a concert in Daytona Beach, Florida, apparently protesting anti-drag bills signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis. Keenan later said the outfit “had nothing to do with Florida,” but in an interview with The Messenger, confirmed his support for drag as a means of self-expression.
Tool has earned three Grammy Awards for its music (plus one for the recording package for “10,000 Days”) and a couple of Billboard Music Awards. The band has 3.2 million followers on Facebook, a million followers on Instagram and about 369,999 followers on Twitter.
