Tomatoes sold in 11 states recalled for salmonella concerns
Indiana-based Ray & Mascari Inc. is recalling some tomatoes due to potential salmonella contamination.
The on-the-vine tomatoes were sold by Gordon Food Service Stores in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Wisconsin, according to a report from the FDA.
The affected tomatoes are sold in plastic clamshells containing four tomatoes.
Ray & Mascari Inc. packages tomatoes from Florida-based grower Hanshaw & Capling Farms. According to the FDA, Hanshaw & Capling Farms notified Ray & Mascari Inc. that it was recalling a section of tomatoes due to the possible presence of salmonella in their facility.
Food distributors that received the recalled lots of tomatoes have been notified and given information to further contact their customers and distribution centers with recall instructions.
As of May 5, no illnesses have been reported to date.
