Toddler boy killed in predawn fire at Lee County home; 5 family member survive

A toddler boy was killed in a predawn fire Saturday in Lee County.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at 2:19 a.m. on a report of a fire in the 300 block of Lee Road 706. The residence was in the Beauregard community.

Multiple agencies responded to the blaze including the sheriff’s office, the Beauregard Volunteer Fire Department, the Southwest Volunteer Fire Department, and the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Authorities said five people were able to escape the fire, but a 19-month-old boy was not able to be saved. He was pronounced dead on the scene by the Lee County Coroner’s Office.

All of the other survivors were family members of the toddler.

Foul play is not suspected, but the blaze remains under investigation.
