Toasted Yolk restaurant coming to former Fuego site in Mobile
A new breakfast-brunch-lunch restaurant has been announced for the Old Shell Road location that was long home to midtown Mobile landmark Fuego.
Fuego had a prominent place at 2066 Old Shell Road for 13 years before closing in April 2022. Owners said the disruptions of the COVID-19 pandemic and economic conditions afterward had driven the decision.
Realtor William Peebles with CRE Mobile posted Wednesday on Facebook that the 4,600-square-foot corner space would be occupied by a Toasted Yolk restaurant. The Toasted Yolk is a chain with about 45 established or “coming soon” locations spread from north Texas across the South to Florida and South Carolina, with a couple as far north as Kentucky and Ohio. Those include a Dothan store that reportedly was the first Toasted Yolk to open outside Texas when it launched in December 2021.
Its “next-gen brunch concept” includes omelettes, sandwiches, tacos, scrambles, pancakes and “The Arnolds,” a variety of breakfast entrees that put various twists on eggs Benedict. The lunch menu is heavy on salads and sandwiches, including a half-pound “Yolk Burger.” For details, visit thetoastedyolk.com.
The Toasted Yolk adds another brunch option to a stretch of Old Shell Road that features a popular local spot, Ashland Midtown Pub, and another recent franchise arrival, a Big Bad Breakfast that opened in about a year ago.
Peebles described the location as a “landmark property” originally built as a market for the Greer’s grocery company.
