Titanic sub: Billionaire passenger’s stepson defends attending Blink-182 concert during search

The stepson of a man trapped on the Titan spoke out about attending a concert while multiple nations coordinate a search and rescue mission for the submersible that lost contact with its mother ship on Sunday as it descended to the wreck of the Titanic.

Brian Szasz, the stepson of British billionaire Hamish Harding responded to criticism for attending a Blink-182 concert in the midst of a search for his stepfather and four other passengers.

“Yes I went to blink-182 last night,” Szasz wrote on his Instagram Stories on Wednesday. “What am I supposed to do sit at home and watch the news? Not sorry this band has helped me through hard times since 1998.”

He also took to Twitter to thank Blink-182.

“My stepdad Hamish is on this submarine lost at sea,” Szasz tweeted. “I’m devastated but coming to the San Diego show tonight, so you guys can give me hope and cheer me up.”

Szasz, 37, also took to Facebook on Tuesday, writing, “It might be distasteful being here but my family would want me to be at the blink-182 show as it’s my favorite band and music helps me in difficult times!”

The Facebook post was later deleted.
