Tim Brando takes issue with Nick Saban’s stance on depth chart, accuses coach of bullying

Depth charts are a bane of college coaches’ existence these days.

No coach has been as adamant against the depth chart in recent years more than Nick Saban. The Alabama coach re-iterated his stance on the idea of releasing such information to the media.

Tim Brando, a Fox Sports commentator, called Saban out for the hesitation, calling it beneath the GOAT.

“Nick Saban’s not delivering a depth chart is beneath him, despite likely giving the guys calling the game some semblance of lineups,” Brando posted on “X,” the social media platform previously known as Twitter. “He should be above that, but, clearly, these days he’s not in the best of moods.”

Saban explained Monday he felt the release took focus away from the game and noting that the release of a depth chart could cause players to be discouraged when they saw their spot.

“Why bully his local media in such a manner?” Brando asked. “The (ass) kissing he’s demanding here is a joke! When much is given, much is also expected, and the Goat needs to act like the greatest as opposed using your brand as a bully pulpit and that’s all this is! Using its “etched in stone” is a bit much, when the truth really is my QB room ain’t what it used to be.”

According to reporters and athletics department employees covering or working for the other 13 schools in the SEC, Alabama will be one of just three teams not releasing depth charts ahead of game day. The Crimson Tide join LSU and Texas A&M.
