Thunderstorms with pea-sized hail to hit Chambers and Lee counties Saturday
The National Weather Service issued a report at 3:39 p.m. on Saturday for strong thunderstorms until 4:15 p.m. for Chambers and Lee counties.
Wind gusts of up to 40 mph and pea-sized hail (0.25 inches) are expected.
“At 3:38 p.m., Doppler radar tracked strong thunderstorms along a line extending from Oak Bowery to River View. Movement was east at 15 mph,” says the weather service. “Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible.”
The warning is for Opelika, Valley, Cusseta, Beulah, Beans Mill, Huguley, Fairfax, River View, Sturkie, Oak Bowery, Bleecker, Chambers County Lake, Lanett Municipal Airport, I 85 Welcome Center At Lanett and Mount Jefferson.
According to the weather service, “If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.”
