Thunderstorms with marble-sized hail to hit Lowndes and Montgomery counties Saturday
A report was issued from the National Weather Service on Saturday at 9:23 p.m. for strong thunderstorms until 10 p.m. for Lowndes and Montgomery counties.
The storms may bring wind gusts of up to 40 mph and marble-sized hail (0.5 inches).
“At 9:23 p.m., Doppler radar tracked a strong thunderstorm near Pintlala, or 7 miles east of Hayneville, moving northeast at 35 mph,” says the weather service. “Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible.”
The warning is for Montgomery, Hayneville, Hunter, Dannelly Field, Maxwell Air Force Base, Hyundai Motors Of Alabama, Alabama State University, Montgomery Riverwalk Stadium, Hope Hull, Woodcrest and Alabama State Capitol.
The weather service adds, “Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.”
