Three maps show poverty’s hold on Alabama

Multiple measures show poverty is holding its grip across Alabama.

Maps produced by Al.com from three federal data sources show the prevalence of poverty in all the state’s counties – even those experiencing fast growth and rising incomes.

Some of the data shows that Mobile County and Jefferson County each have a poverty rate higher than the state’s three-year average, as does Montgomery County. Madison and Limestone counties, on the other hand, are at the other end of the poverty spectrum.
