Coachspeak: “I thought maybe we might be done after allowing that 3-spot in the top of the ninth but our guys responded to adversity about as well as you can. Like I said last night, it was a battle – this is the playoffs and it’s supposed to be like that– and didn’t expect any less today. Really proud of our guys for not giving up and fighting to the end.” — Thompson’s Frankie Perez

“This was the most competitive playoff series I’ve ever coached in my career. I hate it ended the way it did for us but we had plenty of opportunities to end it and take the series. I’m really proud of our team for coming in here and not backing down from a really explosive team. We were excellent at the play but could not get off the field when we needed to the most.” — Spain Park’s Will Smith

What’s next: Thompson advances to face top-ranked Bob Jones next week in the quarterfinal round of the AHSAA playoffs.
