Thompson football opener slated for prime time on ESPN2
Thompson football is back on prime time television.
For the fifth time in six years, the Warriors will play on an ESPN Network, taking on Georgia’s Grayson at 7 p.m. on ESPN2
“This really speaks volumes about our program, our operational capacity and the long-term relationship established with ESPN,” said Vincent Pitts, Thompson director of athletics in a released statement. “We are thrilled that our school, community, city, players and coaches will again be featured on the biggest stage.
“This helps continue to cement the legacy of this program as one of the best.”
Thompson football has been featured numerous times on the ESPN family of networks. In 2018 the Warriors hosted Hewitt-Trussville and played at Trussville in 2020. Thompson hosted Lipscomb Academy in 2022 and played Clay Chalkville in 2023.
The Warriors season-opening game on Thursday, Aug. 22, against Grayson is part of Kickoff Weekend telecast on ESPN2.
Thompson won four straight Class 7A championships 2019-2022 and reached the title game every season since 2017 under coach Mark Freeman.
