Thomasville man gets 8 years for using SnapChat to send child porn
A 42-year-old Thomasville man will spend eight years in prison after pleading guilty to distributing child pornography.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced Tuesday that Dennis Elmo Haskew was sentenced to eight years in federal prison, followed by 10 years of post-release supervision.
In addition, U.S. District Court Judge Kristi DuBose imposed a special assessment on Haskew of $5,100, and ordered him to pay $15,000 in restitution to the victims. He will also be required to register as a sex offender after his release from prison and is forbidden from ever having contact with minor children.
Haskew pleaded guilty in January, admitting in federal court he created multiple accounts on the SnapChat social media platform, using those accounts to send images of child sexual abuse to other SnapChat users.
An FBI examination of DuBose’s electronic devices found 793 still images and six videos of child sexual abuse material, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Haskew was arrested by the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office in August 2021. The FBI and the Jackson Police Department investigated the case.
The case against Haskew was opened as part of Project Safe Childhood, a project of the U.S. Department of Justice to fight the growing amount of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
