Good People Brewing Co. is the best brewery in Alabama, according to Yelp.

The site recently published a list of the best breweries in the country, based on Yelp reviews. The factors: the businesses’ number of reviews and ratings.

This year, Good People will celebrate 15 years in service. Owners Jason Malone and Michael Sellers tapped the first keg of Good People Brown Ale on July 4, 2008. The brewery, located at 114 14th St. South in Birmingham, is Alabama’s oldest existing brewery.

Good People blazed the trail for the state’s future breweries, including being the first in the South to can its beer, proving that a local market existed for craft beer and high-alcohol brews. The opening of Good People helped usher in the state’s beer reformation laws, widely helmed by the grassroots organization, Free the Hops.

Fast forward to 2023, Good People beer is distributed throughout Alabama, Tennessee (Nashville, Murfreesboro, and Franklin), and the Florida panhandle, according to the brewery’s website.

Good People Brewing is open Tuesday to Thursday from noon to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to midnight, and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
