This famous comedian has a big thumbs-up for an Alabama Buc-ee’s
The setup: A Southern comedian walks into an Alabama Buc-ee’s …
The punchline: Well, there are a few. But let’s start with this: “Oh my God, Beaver Nuggets,” Fortune Feimster says in an Instagram clip documenting a recent gas stop in Athens. “I don’t know what this is, but sign me up.”
Feimster recently made her first-ever visit to Buc-ee’s and documented the experience in a clip she posted on Sunday. A little detective work suggests she might have recorded it a day or two earlier, since she had to travel from an April 20 show in Mobile to an April 22 appearance at the Nashville Comedy Festival in Ryman Auditorium. The “2328″ seen over the store’s door identifies it as the Texas-based chain’s third Alabama store, which opened last fall at 2328 Lindsay Lane South off I-65 and Brown’s Ferry Road in Athens.
In her distinctive fashion, Feimster hits all the highlights: Cheap gas, nice restrooms, a cornucopia of kitschy merchandise, hot food and a superabundance of niche products such as hot sauce. “Anyone want some jerky?” she says, stunned by a wall of dried meat. “I mean, good lord, that is a lot of jerky.”
A swimsuit featuring a nearly psychedelic pattern of Buc-ee’s beavers over leopard spots also catches her eye. “All right,” she says. “I found my new one-piece. My new one-piece bathing suit right here? Come on, should I get it?”
If you recall the bit from her “Sweet and Salty” Netflix special about joining a swim team as a kid, you might have to stop and think before answering.
You can see the whole clip on Feimster’s Instagram account. And if you missed her at the Mobile Saenger Theatre and at Buc-ee’s, never fear: Soon she’ll be back on Netflix in the new Arnold Schwarzenegger action series “FUBAR.” The trailer makes clear she’s got more than a bit part. (And fortunately, a bazooka was one thing she couldn’t find in Buc-ee’s.)
