This exotic Birmingham-area nightspot is closed – but plans to reopen soon

A popular Birmingham twenties-era “speakeasy” is closed – but don’t worry: it’s owners plan to reopen in a few weeks.

The Marble Ring, 430 41st St. S., Suite B, has announced through social media that it will be closed, but only for a few weeks.

“We will be temporarily closing The Marble Ring to perform renovations, and we plan to re-open in mid-March and welcome you all back, better than ever!” the post reads.

It promises regular updates through Instagram and Facebook.

Opened in 2016, The Marble Ring takes its name from a saying attributed to Montgomery-native Zelda Fitzgerald: “I hope you die in the Marble Ring.”

The obscure quotation, colored by Fitzgerald’s flapper era taste for glamour and the bizarre, lent itself to the Marble Ring’s decor, which conjured up the classic Prohibition-era speakeasy.

Its hidden entrance concealed, guests enter through the blue call box many might recognize from the “Doctor Who” program. They are then escorted inside to a space with chandeliers, a bathtub at the bar, and other exotic flourishes.
