The number of gainers narrowly nipped decliners Thursday to lift our Birmingham and Alabama Stock Report, with several central Alabama stocks at or near the top of the table.

Birmingham-based Medical Properties Trust paced the table at +4.6%. Warrior Met Coal also had a respectable day, rising 1.7%. ProAssurance gained 1.6%.

The biggest percentage figures were at the bottom of the table, however. Synovus lost a whopping 7.4%. Tenet Healthcare and Community Health Systems shed 5.1% and 4.5%, respectively.
