This Alabama football player is ‘10 times faster’ heading into 2025

Jah-Marien Latham returns for one final season with Alabama football, and he’s changing positions.

No longer will he be a Bandit defensive end. The Crimson Tide is switching the sixth-year player to outside linebacker, what Alabama calls the “Wolf” position.

With the position switch came necessary weight loss for Latham. He was listed at 278 in 2024. Now, he’s down to 265, per the UA roster.

How different does he look?

“He’s like 10 times faster,” defensive lineman LT Overton said. “It’s a different type of game when you lose that weight. When I came in, I had to gain weight. It kind of slows your game down a little bit. But you have to make sure you adjust to that weight. (Latham) has taken his weight loss to a whole other level … Him being able to make sure he’s moving faster expands his game more, especially when he has to drop and stuff.”

Latham started 11 games in 2024 as the primary Bandit defensive end alongside Overton. Over that span, Latham tallied 29 tackles and a sack.

“He’s always been like a freak athlete,” defensive tackle Tim Keenan III said. “He’s always had that twitch, that wiggle to him. I’m happy to see. I don’t think he’ll have too many problems out there.”

Alabama completed its third spring practice Friday, and the Crimson Tide will continue spring practice through Saturday, April 12, which will be A-Day.
