These Krispy Kreme foods will soon disappear from grocery stores
The closure of a North Carolina Krispy Kreme plant means some of its name brand snacks will disappear from grocery stores.
Krispy Kreme is discontinuing its branded sweet treats – shelf-stable items sold on the snack aisle – made at its donut plant in Concord, North Carolina, Food Business News reported. The plant will close May 11, resulting in the loss of 102 jobs.
The discontinued items will include Krispy Kreme Doughnut Bites, bite-sized donut holes sold in original glazed, chocolate and apple cinnamon flavors, as well as Krispy Kreme Mini Crullers in both original glazed and blueberry varieties.
The change is a result of the company shifting its focus to concentrate on its fresh daily donut business that is “strong, profitable and growing quickly, the company said.
“This is the area where we are focusing our investments and resources. Because of this, we chose to exit our underperforming, extended shelf-life snack aisle business and cease production at our manufacturing facility in Concord, NC, where these snack aisle products were made. We are supporting our affected employees, all of whom are eligible to apply for any open position or for severance and outplacement services. We are grateful to all of them,” Krispy Kreme said in a statement.
Doughnut Bites and Mini Crullers were first introduced in June 2020 and were initially available only at Walmart locations before distribution expanded to other grocery and convenience stores.
