Theodore man charged after 13-year-old boy shot in head at Mobile convenience store
A suspect is in custody in connection with a shooting last Saturday in which a 13-year-old was struck in the head by gunfire.
Mobile police said 22-year-old Trey Anthony Williams of Theodore was taken into custody Wednesday and charged with 1st-degree assault, 2nd-degree assault, four counts of reckless endangerment and one count of shooting into an occupied vehicle or building.
As of Thursday afternoon, Williams remained in Mobile Metro Jail, held in lieu of bond totaling $77,376.
Police said Williams initially assaulted an adult male victim at one location before police were called regarding a shooting at a convenience store on Rangeline Road Saturday. After the initial assault, police say Williams followed the victim in his vehicle and fired shots in his direction.
At least one of those shots, however, struck a 13-year-old who was a passenger in a different vehicle, with a bullet striking the juvenile in the head, although it did not penetrate the skull, according to police investigators. The boy was also grazed on the side of the head, although police say it may have been by the same bullet.
Both the 13-year-old and the adult assault victim were treated at a local hospital, according to police.
“I thought I was going to die,” the teenager told WALA in Mobile. “I was scared and I thought I was going to die.”
The boy’s mother told the outlet her son was fine and noted that her 6-year-old son was riding in the same vehicle at the time of the shooting. She said they had attempted to flee the scene after initially hearing the gunfire, but not before the two bullets entered her vehicle.
