The latest on Saraland 5-star WR Ryan Williams’ recruitment

Saraland 5-star wide receiver Ryan Williams is now inside of a month until he officially signs and, as expected, it’s been a busy time.

The state’s reigning Mr. Football decommitted from Alabama last week shortly after the news of Nick Saban’s retirement broke.

He visited Texas A&M over the weekend and, according to On3, took a surprise visit to Alabama on Monday night. He is scheduled to be in Tuscaloosa again this weekend. Williams was originally to be in Montgomery today for the Alabama Sports Writers Association Player of the Year banquet, but that was postponed until Jan. 30 due to the winter weather.

In an interview with On3, Williams said he is “very interested” in Alabama’s hire of new coach Kalen DeBoer. “That’s definitely something of interest to me, and I’d love to stay home,” he said.

Williams has announced a visit to LSU on Wednesday and Thursday before returning to Tuscaloosa this weekend. He also has visits to Texas on Jan. 27 and Auburn on Feb. 3. He is scheduled to sign his National Letter of Intent on Feb. 9, his 17th birthday.

As a junior, he caught 71 passes for 1,320 yards and 19 TDs for the Class 6A runner-up Spartans. He also rushed for 269 yards and seven scores. He could become the first repeat Mr. Football winner in the 42-year history of the award if he claims the honor again on Jan. 30.

“Ryan Williams is highly unique,” said Jimmy Stein, On3 Alabama Team Analyst. “He is so polished for such a young player. He possesses great natural ability as a route runner and has such soft hands. Among all his traits, the best may be separation. He separates easily at the top of the route and then finds yet another gear after the catch. His game reminds me a ton of Devonta Smith’s. In so many ways.”

Other in-state recruiting notes:

Former Georgia OT commit and Vigor star Micah DeBose was re-offered by coach Deion Sanders and Colorado this week. The 6-foot-5, 315-pound first-team All-State selection decommitted from the Bulldogs three days before Christmas. DeBose is the No. 3-ranked junior recruit in the state, according to the 247 composite rankings.

Hewitt-Trussville quarterback and reigning Class 7A Back of the Year Peyton Floyd visited coach Gus Malzahn and UCF over the weekend.

Thompson QB Trent Seaborn – the MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year – visited North Carolina and Clemson this week.
