The latest on Alabama’s severe weather threat: Tornadoes, hail, heavy rain all possible

The possibility of severe weather remains in the forecast for Alabama both on Sunday and Monday.

Tornadoes, damaging winds, hail and heavy rain will all be possible on both days, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters added that the tornado threat is uncertain, but there is the potential for it to increase.

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center continues to forecast a Level 2 out of 5 risk for severe weather on Sunday night and into the day on Monday.

A Level 2 risk means that scattered severe storms will be possible.

Sunday’s severe weather outlook is at the top of this post. Monday’s severe weather outlook is below:

Nearly all of Alabama will have a Level 2 risk for severe weather on Monday.SPC

The Storm Prediction Center has expanded the severe weather risk farther to the west on Monday from earlier forecasts.

The weather service said that’s because trends are pointing to a slower system.

The weather service cautioned that the timing for storms and the threat level could change as forecast details become more clear.

As of now the forecast is pointing to storms moving into northern and western Alabama on Sunday night and moving eastward through the night and into the day on Monday.

Drier weather is set to return on Tuesday, but the weather service noted that there could be the potential for more storms on Wednesday and Thursday. However, as of Thursday the Storm Prediction Center didn’t have Alabama included in any severe weather risks on those days.
