The latest intel on Alabama football’s roster for 2025

Kalen DeBoer will now have a full offseason to put together a roster.

The Alabama football coach wasn’t afforded that luxury ahead of the 2024 season. DeBoer replaced the retiring Nick Saban in mid-January. That meant the transfer portal re-opened for the Crimson Tide for a month when it was closed for most teams. DeBoer had to re-recruit much of the roster while trying to build a program and up and move from Seattle to Tuscaloosa.

Now, DeBoer has full access to the transfer portal, not the picked-over version he and his Alabama staff drew from upon arriving in January.

The bridge year is over for DeBoer as he molded his way with mostly players used to the Saban way. DeBoer will have a chance to build a roster filled more with players that fit his system.

Alabama signed the No. 2 recruiting class in the early signing period for 2025, per the 247Sports Composite. Meanwhile, there are coming and goings to the transfer portal. Crimson Tide veterans will also make NFL Draft decisions.

To construct the new roster, DeBoer will work with general manager Courtney Morgan, director of player personnel Bob Welton, director of recruiting strategy Jatavis Sanders and other staffers in the player personnel department.

As the offseason progresses, AL.com will share what it’s hearing from sources around college football about Alabama roster moves, the transfer portal and more on this page.

Names in the transfer portal as of Wednesday night

Dec. 11: Here are all the Alabama players who are officially listed in the transfer portal as of Wednesday night at about 6:30 p.m.: Jahlil Hurley, Naquil Betrand, Hunter Osborne, Caleb Odom, Jehiem Oatis, Kendrick Law, Kobe Prentice, Danny Lewis Jr., Keanu Koht and Miles McVay.

It can take up to two days for names to make it into the portal, which is why Lonergan’s name might not be in yet. Plus, Koht announced his commitment to Vanderbilt on Wednesday, so his

Overall transfer portal movement three days in

Dec. 11 update: Alabama has seen a handful of players decide to go into the transfer portal. None have been full-time starters. And to my knowledge, none have really been a surprise to UA so far. That can always change, but for now, it’s been pretty normal end-of-season roster change in the portal era.

Thoughts on Alabama quarterback situation

Dec. 11 update: Now that Lonergan is expected to enter the transfer portal, Alabama is down to three quarterbacks who could return in 2025, based on remaining eligibility. Jalen Milroe hasn’t announced a decision yet, but I’d be pretty surprised if he doesn’t go out for the NFL Draft. ESPN projects him as the No. 4 quarterback right now. If Milroe does indeed depart for the draft, that leaves Ty Simpson and Austin Mack returning. Plus, Alabama signed Keelon Russell, a five-star quarterback in the 2025 recruiting class who also was named the Gatorade national player of the year. If it is in fact those three returning, Simpson would likely be in the pole position to earn the starting job for next season.

Dylan Lonergan expected to enter transfer portal

Dec. 11 update: The Alabama backup quarterback is set to enter the portal, a source told AL.com. He will leave the Crimson Tide after two seasons. There’s not much more to read into this but him likely benefitting from a change of scenery and a fresh start; It had a great benefit for his former recruiting classmate Eli Holstein who went to Pitt.

A name to watch in transfer portal

Dec. 10 update: Former Florida defender Kelby Collins is someone on which to keep an eye. He’s from Gardendale and could be a difference maker in Kane Wommack’s defense. Collins is in the transfer portal and could make a lot of sense for Alabama, but word in the conference is he’s expected to draw interest from other SEC programs as well, such as South Carolina and Texas A&M.

SEC tight end to visit Alabama

Dec. 10 update: Luke Hasz, an Arkansas tight end in the transfer portal, is also expected to visit Alabama this week, a source told AL.com. He’s got two seasons under his belt and would help fill a need for Alabama with several tight ends set to depart.

Transfer portal receiver set to visit Alabama

Dec. 9 update: Kevin Concepcion is expected to visit Alabama this week, a source tells AL.com. Concepcion has played the past two seasons for NC State and would give the Crimson Tide another dynamic receiver. In 2024, he totaled eight touchdowns after a 10 touchdown freshman campaign. He’s got a connection with Jatavis Sanders, who worked at NC State before arriving in Tuscaloosa.

Positions to watch

Dec. 9 update: Keep an eye on tight end, receiver, offensive line and pass rushers. These are positions that make sense based on roster needs or Alabama has shown interest in. That’s not an exhaustive list, but certainly some positions to watch.

Miles McVay plans to enter the transfer portal

Dec. 8 update: McVay’s agents Chase Moss and Darren J. Wilson from Quality Control Sports told AL.com of the offensive tackle’s decision Sunday. He’s a former four-star offensive tackle who saw playing time in all 12 games this past season, primarily on special teams.
