The Huntsville Times Player of the Week: Big scorer atop list

Big-time scorers and all-around standouts populate The Huntsville Times Player of the Week list from games played last Thursday through Tuesday night.

The No. 1 player averaged 28.5 points over two wins for one of the top teams in Class 7A. The second player on the list scored 16.5 and claimed 6.5 rebounds in a pair of wins.

Here are the top 5 performers from the Huntsville area, with statistics through Jan. 30, based on information provided by coaches or scorekeepers:

5. Cooper Colvin, Albertville. The 6-foot-1 junior guard scored 24 points in a 57-39 win over Sparkman and 22 in a 73-54 win over Guntersville. In the latter, Colvin hit 9-of-11 of his field-goal attempts.

4. Limaya Batimba, Lee-Huntsville. The senior double-double machine had back-to-back stellar performances in Lee’s 60-56 win over Guntersville and 61-56 road loss to The Webb School in Bell Buckle, Tenn. She scored 20 with 13 rebounds against Guntersville and 23 points with 10 boards vs. Webb.
