‘The Challenge’ season 40 premiere: How to watch, where to stream free

The Challenge 40: Battle Of the Eras is finally here and set to premiere on MTV Wednesday, Aug. 14 at 8/7c.

This season, The Challenge will embark on its monumental 40th season and will feature 40 legendary competitors from the series’ 26-year history representing their “Challenge Era” in an epic battle for the ages.

According to MTV, this season’s stacked roster features the most Challenge champions ever including 7x winner Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio, 5x winner CT Tamburello, 4x winners Darrell Taylor and Jordan Wiseley, 3x winner Derrick Kosinski, 2x winners Mark Long, Jonna Mannion, Rachel Robinson, Cara Maria Sorbello, Laurel Stucky and Jodi Weatherton along with a long list of single-time winners.

“In the monumental 40th Season, The Challenge 40: Battle of the Eras, the path to glory is far from easy, as they must first compete at the Era Invitational and eliminate the weakest links from within their own Challenge Era for only the best will earn a coveted spot on their team,” MTV states in a recent news release.

“With relentless, new challenges and twists, these seasoned Veterans are perpetually kept on their toes in the game they thought they had mastered.”

Where can I watch The Challenge season 40?

Those without basic cable can still live stream the season 40 premiere of The Challenge on Wednesday with either Philo, Fubo or DirecTV Stream, all of which offer free trials for new subscribers.

However, Philo is the cheapest live streaming option at $28 a month after its 7-day free trial.

What is Philo?

Philo is considered one of the cheaper live streaming services available as it allows users to stream over 70 live TV channels for just $28 a month after its free trial.

Popular channels offered with Philo include the Hallmark Channel, MTV, AMC, HGTV, History Channel, Discovery Channel, CMT, TLC, BET and more.

The streaming service also offers unlimited DVR along with various movies and TV shows users can watch on-demand.

What is Fubo?

Fubois also an alternative to basic cable, but with better channel options that Philo does not offer.

Fubo considers itself a sports-focused streaming service, but overall, its standard package comes with over 100 live channels for $79.99 a month after its free trial. These channels include ESPN, ABC, NBC, CBS, TLC, MTV and much more.

Fubo also comes with a variety of shows and movies users can watch on-demand along with the option to record your favorite TV shows.

What is DirecTV Stream?

DirecTV Stream is similar to Fubo in that it offers many of the same channels and features. At $84.98 a month after its free trial, the base package comes with a little over 75 live TV channels.
