Texas can exit the Big 12 in grand fashion with a win on Saturday afternoon, while Oklahoma State finds motivation in throwing a wrench in the Longhorns’ College Football Playoff dreams.
Texas vs. Oklahoma State Big 12 Championship odds preview
The Longhorns had a less-than-impressive end to the regular season, facing near upsets to Kansas State and TCU. Texas seems to have gotten its swagger back in the form of a 57-7 routing of Texas Tech, aided by 302 rushing yards in Jonathon Brooks’ absence.
Oklahoma State was favored significantly in its regular-season finale vs. BYU but trailed by 18 points at halftime. A Cowboys loss would’ve set up a rematch between Texas and Oklahoma in the Big 12 Championship.
Instead, Oklahoma State stormed back to win in double overtime. The Longhorns likely breathed a deep sigh of relief when the game ended, as a matchup with the Sooners would’ve made for a much tougher matchup.
Texas vs. Oklahoma State game props and odds: Texas -15 (-110 or better)
On paper, it appears Texas will cakewalk to the podium to raise the Big 12 Championship trophy.
Oklahoma State surrenders 423 total yards per game, the second-worst mark in the conference, along with 27 points. Texas put up eye-popping numbers on the ground vs. Texas Tech and now gets ready for a defense that allows 172 rushing yards per week.
Mike Gundy cycled through a few quarterbacks to start the year before handing Alan Bowman the keys to the Pokes’ offense. Bowman has posted solid numbers, but turnovers have been a glaring issue.
The Texas native has 11 interceptions on the year and six in the previous three games. Another concern is the Longhorns’ run defense, which gives up the fifth-fewest yards in FBS.
Gaps will be difficult to find for FBS rushing yards leader Ollie Gordon, meaning Bowman needs to play a clean game for Oklahoma State to keep it close.
Texas vs. Oklahoma State player props and odds: Quinn Ewers to pass for 275+ yards (+105 or better)
Quinn Ewers didn’t have flashy numbers in Texas’ convincing victory over Texas Tech, mainly due to the Longhorns’ efficiency in the rushing attack. Ewers had 196 yards, one touchdown, one interception, and three sacks.
Expect Quinn to be more involved against the Cowboys’ porous defense. Oklahoma State was one of the worst teams in the Big 12 against the pass and will have their hands full with Texas’ top-tier pass catchers.
Xavier Worthy, Adonai Mitchell, and Ja’Tavion Sanders combined for 2,089 yards and 15 touchdowns this season.
