Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers returning for 2024 season

Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers made official what had long been rumored on Thursday, that he’s returning to college for the 2024 season.

Ewers, draft-eligible this year as a redshirt sophomore, passed for 3,479 yards and 22 touchdowns in 2023, helping the Longhorns win the Big 12 title and reach the College Football Playoff. He announced his return via a video on Instagram, writing “I’m Coming Back” on a football card of himself.

Here’s the video:

The 6-foot-2, 204-pound Ewers played his high school ball at Southlake Carroll in the Dallas area, where he was the No. 2 overall prospect in the 2021 recruiting class. He originally signed with Ohio State, however, but transferred to Texas after redshirting his freshman year.

Ewers started 10 games as a redshirt freshman for the Longhorns in 2022, passing for 2,177 yards and 15 touchdowns. He is 16-6 as a starter.

Backup quarterback Maalik Murphy, also a former 5-star recruit, transferred to Duke at the end of the regular season. Arch Manning, the nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning, played in one game — going 2-for-5 for 30 yards passing late in a blowout vs. Texas Tech — as a true freshman in 2023.
